Puzzle Pals
Eighteen characters live in the workshop. One rides along at a time, and every single one of them does something real while it is with you — an extra preview hold, a free hint each day, a streak you are allowed to miss a day of. None of them are decoration.

One slot, on purpose. Because only one Pal’s perk is active at a time, a Pal you picked for looks is never strictly worse than a Pal you picked for its perk — a perk costs you the slot either way. Luna is the deliberate exception: she carries every perk at once.

How the perks actually work
Most reset once a day
A free hint, a free Spotlight, a skipped ad — one use per day, to whichever Pal is equipped when you use it.
Two are always on
Pippa’s extra preview holds and Cocoa’s new-pack bonus do not need resetting: they either apply to every puzzle, or to something that can only happen once anyway.
Bonuses are paid in Friendship
Every perk that grants a bonus grants Friendship with that Pal, not currency. Friendship only ever goes up, so a bonus you earn stays earned.
